Activities

CAMP PROGRAMS

A wide range of camping activities is available to each camper according to interest and skill.

Cookouts

Each session, campers can participate in a Riverlea cookout, held on the Thursday of the second week of the session. Campers and staff gather at Rivendell (weather permitting) and cook hamburgers (veggie burgers available) over an open fire. S'mores are cooked up for dessert. Following the cookout the campers form a circle for the Magic Ring ceremony. Each camper receives a "magic ring," signifying their membership in the fellowship of the rings and symbolizing the unity at camp and life-time membership in the circle of friends at camp.

Overnights

In the three-week sessions (sessions one and three) Trolls, Tooks, Ents, and Striders can stay for the Overnight, which is held the same evening after the Cookout (the Thursday evening of the second week of the session). Older campers participate in a huge game of capture-the-flag. They also take part in a campfire program, which includes the re-telling of the history of Camp Riverlea, the lighting of the fire by the "Magic Indian," talent presented by staff and campers, and sharing in a Circle of Friendship. Before heading to their sleeping bags to sleep under the stars, the campers stop at Yonder Pond where they make a wish and set luminaries afloat on Yonder Pond.

Other Specials

The Riverlea staff also puts on other specials for campers. A carnival, "Search for the Gems" game, and a fourth of July celebration occur to give campers additional fun outside of the regular schedule and to bring together all age groups.
